Start where you are!
We've been telling our daughters the same things for years:
-- brush your teeth before bed;
-- wash your hands before dinner;
-- if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all;
You've got the idea.
But the one thing we've been telling them that has become a lesson for the whole family is this:
Start where you are
Use what you have
Do what you can
It will be enough
Our entire family finds this so refreshing for what it does and doesn't say. It frees us from trying to be heros, while at the same time not excusing inaction; it calls us to use the time, talents and treasures we've been given in the most creative way we can; and then it calls us to be content with the outcome -- truly turning it over to God to do the rest.
What a thought! What a powerful inspiration!
What would the global AIDS pandemic look like today, if everyone in the world adopted this attitude of starting right where they were to do something?!
